Housekeeping is one of the most important departments in a hotel. Its main purpose is to provide guests with a clean, comfortable, safe, and pleasant environment. A well-maintained hotel creates a positive impression and ensures guest satisfaction. Housekeeping takes care of the cleanliness and upkeep of guest rooms, public areas, bathrooms, corridors, banquet halls, restaurants, offices, and all other hotel spaces. It also manages laundry, linen, uniforms, room supplies, and lost-and-found items. Their work ensures that the hotel looks neat, fresh, and welcoming at all times. Housekeeping works closely with the Front Office and other departments to prepare rooms for guests, report maintenance issues, and support smooth hotel operations. Because cleanliness and comfort are key to a guest’s experience, housekeeping plays a major role in maintaining hotel standards and reputation.

  • Functions of Housekeeping
  1. Cleaning and Maintenance:- Housekeeping cleans guest rooms, bathrooms, public areas, and all hotel spaces.They also check for repairs and report maintenance issues.
  2. Room Preparation:- Guest rooms are prepared with clean linen, towels, toiletries, and supplies so that the guest feels comfortable upon arrival.
  3. Linen and Laundry Management:- Housekeeping manages all hotel linens such as bed sheets, pillowcases, towels, napkins, and uniforms. They send laundry items for washing and ensure everything is clean and well-maintained.
  4. Guest Supplies and Amenities:- The department provides necessary supplies like soap, shampoo, tea/coffee, water bottles, tissues, etc.
  5. Lost and Found:- Any item lost or left behind by guests is safely recorded and stored in the housekeeping department.
  6. Pest Control:- Housekeeping ensures that rooms and public areas are free from insects and pests to maintain hygiene.
  7. Decorations and Ambience:- Flower arrangements, fragrances, and interior upkeep help create a pleasant atmosphere for guests.
